Fishing baits are a form of fishing tackle that is used in attracting fish. They are usually attached at the end of a fishing hook or in some instances, fish traps. Traditional baits used are insects, nightcrawlers, and smaller bait fish such as the fathead minnow.

Nowadays, there are two types of this fishing tackle namely the natural and artificial baits. According to studies, natural baits like shrimps and worms can better attract fishes because they are easily recognizable to them. Other common natural baits are leeches, frogs, and salamanders.

At present, there are more people who prefer the use of artificial baits or lures. Some of them are designed to represent prey while others are made to represent an action like the one used in fly fishing. One popular example of artificial bait is the Green Highlander which is commonly used in salmon fishing. The Texas rig is another example which employs the use of soft plastic lures.
